Worthwhile Things You Should Do With Your Summer (That You Can Do Abroad!)

Maybe you’re self-employed, and can take off any holiday you like. Maybe you’re a teacher, and so you get a big chunk of vacation time in the summer. Or maybe you have a traditional job with limited days off, but plan to take a week of it in the warmest season of all. Whichever applies to you, or something else entirely, don’t just sit around at home the whole time! There are loads of worthwhile things you can (and should!) do with your summer. Let’s take a look a handful of these that you can do abroad. Worthwhile activities combined with travel and adventure? What more could you want!

Teach underprivileged children

Perhaps it is time to show some gratitude for the education and knowledge you received as a young person. You could do this by heading abroad to teach underprivileged children. Even if you only have a week or two to spare, your help and support will be greatly appreciated.

Volunteer with animals

Children aren’t the only one who could benefit from your free time this summer. Animals also need your time and effort. No, we’re not talking about taking your Labrador for a walk. We’re talking about going abroad to volunteer with an endangered animal or species. You could volunteer withorangutans in Borneo, for example. Or how about turtle conservation in Costa Rica?

Spend more time with your best friends

The other we get, the less time we get to spend with our best friends. It’s sad but true. At school and even at University, we get a lot of time with each other. But once we begin to go our separate ways, we get different jobs and live in different cities. You can still be the best of friends, but you don’t get to see each other in person as much. No, chatting on Facebook messenger doesn’t count as quality time! So, use your summer to reconnect with your friends. Don’t just arrange to have a coffee, arrange for a vacation, road trip or adventure together! If you are already friends, there is a good chance you will fancy the same thing. Maybe a spa retreat, or perhaps an adrenaline adventure? Travelling withfriends is amazing fun, and you can finally make some fresh memories together.

Pick up a new skill

Finally, another worthwhile thing you could do with your summer is picking up a new skill. This is a great idea for a number of reasons. First, it gets you back into the swing of learning things- this is great if school was a while back for you now! Secondly, it could be something that will help you earn money in the future. It may also boost your resume and your job prospects. So, if you’ve always wanted to learn a new language, how about heading to Spain to learn their native language. Or spend a few weeks in Paris learning French? Alternatively, if you fancy something a little more active, you could go to Australia and learn how to be a surfinstructor!
