I’ve always thought that having a “good chemistry” only happens with people and not with food– I’ve thought wrong.
I guess it’s understandable for one to say that ice cream is worth screaming for. However, to say that liquid nitrogen is worth screaming for, one could only expect an arching brow in response. You might ask who craves, or even think about liquid nitrogen? Would you even believe when one would say that liquid nitrogen ice cream is worth screaming for?
Introducing, Avalanche Ice Cream Shop, the first in Visayas and Mindanao to use liquid nitrogen as part of the freezing process of their ice cream, the shop offers its customers a new gastronomic experience that would leave ice cream lovers craving for more.
They offer a variety of ice cream flavors to choose from, but my personal favorite is their signature amazing avocado and honey butter milk (Php95.00). The texture is smooth while maintaining its creamy and avocado taste. It’s a tad bit pricey, but it’s all worth it.
Their menu doesn’t end at liquid nitrogen ice cream. The Smokin’ Brownie (Php78.00), on the other hand, was oddly surprising. You simply dip the brownie chunks in a cup of liquid nitrogen for 4-5 seconds where it produces a vapor-like bubbling chemical reaction (causing the chunk of brownie get a little bit frozen) then eat it right away. What makes it interesting? It uses this chemical element as a dip– who knew that one could gastronomically play with the chemical elements in the periodic table, right?
Caution: avoid direct skin contact with the liquid nitrogen because it’ll give you that feeling of a mild frostbite. Gladly, their staff is kind enough to remind you that before serving your ice cream and brownies.
The ice cream shop is relatively new, but already has already gained popularity through social media. There’s nothing special to the taste of liquid nitrogen, but I guess it’s the gastronomic experience what makes it worth the visit.
I hope they would open up a branch in Mindanao sooner. But for the mean time, if you get the chance to visit Cebu, the shop is located beside Anitas Bakeshop in Osmeña Blvd., Cebu City, reachable via all Capitol-bound jeepneys and taxis.
