"Would you like to know your future? If your answer is yes, think again. Not knowing is the greatest life motivator. So enjoy, endure, survive each moment as it comes to you in its proper sequence -- a surprise." ― Vera Nazarian
Earlier this year, my blog went down for almost a month and I was at the point of almost giving up The Chubby Buddy. My friends gave me the push to NEVER GIVE UP. So I didn't. Today, let me share with you all why it was the greatest decision I ever made because not giving up on what I started almost a year ago lead me to the greatest and most unexpected thing that ever happened in my entire life. Some time around November, I got nominated as one of the lifestyle blogger of the year nominees and little did I know I would actually stand a chance. Last December 14, 2014 at Centrio Ayala Mall I was awarded as this year's LIFESTYLE BLOGGER OF THE YEAR by the Urban Life - Mindanao Gold Star Daily
One important thing I learned from this experience is to always look for strength in holding on to things you've worked hard for. Along the way you might be faced with struggles, but trust me, all hard work will be worth it in the end.
I will be forever grateful to everyone who believed in me. I would also like to acknowledge one of my blogger-bestfriends, Penda Penn. She's one awesome blogging mentor. She was the one who really gave me the push right from the start and I wouldn't have made it this far without her. Also to my co-bloggers from our organization, the CDOBloggers, who are very supportive all throughout my blogging journey. I am very thankful to have kuyas & ates (older brothers and sisters) to guide me all the way. I will never forget what they keep telling me of always putting myself on the ground amidst whatever achievements I gain in my blogger adventure.

This is just yet another milestone as I venture deeper into the online world. To everyone else, NEVER GIVE UP YOUR DREAMS. Whatever that is, long as you believe in yourself, you're gonna get it! Sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path to the best things that will ever happen to us.

Let me let you in on a little secret that I know to be true: Salvation can be found in a cup of tea. At this not-so-ordinary teahouse in Cagayan de Oro City, Chingkee Te brings her creative flair to her artisanal tea and serves up a range of other legit Taiwanese drinks that would impress the most fussy tea lovers.

At any time on any given day, you will find this teahouse filled with happy customers, every table occupied, and a queue of wishful tea lovers at the door. Lucky enough I got to go there first thing in the morning on a weekday where it was still serene, but it wasn't for long haha! I'm sure everyone has already heard of this lovely tea shop, but that won't stop me from sharing with you all my tea experience at Chingkeetea. I've been looking for a chance to blog about this place and I guess now's the perfect time (better late than never, right? Haha!).

Chingkeetea deserves a spot in my heart and in my blog. I have been an avid fan of this teahouse ever since it opened around 2011 (I guess). I could still remember my first drink, which was, still, and will be my forever favorite, the wintermelon milk tea with noodles haha! I have witnessed the humble beginning of this place where they started out as a small teahouse until they already expanded their space to accommodate the never ending growing population of milk tea patrons in the city.
Chingkeetea is home to CDO's authentic Taiwanese tea drinks for a very affordable and reasonable price! Ranging from Php60 to Php80. They use only high-quality tealeaves handpicked from Taiwan, the hometown of milk tea. Service is fast and friendly with minimal fuss. While looking for a vacant table can be difficult, it doesn't seem to intimidate the hordes of tea lovers that make their way at this place at all hours of the day! It's especially packed even on rainy afternoons, when you can hear lots of slurping!
Definitely not fine dining but nowhere near fast food, Chingkeetea sits comfortably in the middle. It's most definitely a cool place to be with its casual vibe, upbeat hipster music, and creative space with a contemporary artsy fartsy aesthetic. It's no question why this place won the most voted #WonderfulMindaNOW spot for 2014. Again, Congratulations! This is not your ordinary milk teahouse so better come with an open mind and fully charged phone because honestly, every nook of this place is simply instagram-worthy!

Visit and like Chingkeetea's facebook page. This lovely teahouse is located at Marfori Compound, Pabayo-Gaerlan Sts., Cagayan de Oro City. Go now and have a magical tea experience!

Oh My Pastry Cafe

Saturday, September 06, 2014

It was a calm afternoon and a slow day for me after school so it made me thought to myself, this is probably the best time for me to go binge eating and have some “me time” haha! The first food spot that popped inside my head was "Oh My Pastry and Cafe". This gem of a bistro continues to draw loyal crowd of repeat customers seeking the comfort of its honest to goodness frappes and pastries. The cafe has that distinct characters of artsy-ness, a bit left-of-center, but never intimidating, and it remains approachable even its pastry chef, Honey Ching, who is fond to play with flavors of all sorts!

It’s not my first time here though, but every time I go to this quaint little cafe it just feels like my first time because something new always seems to pop out in every nook of the shop. For the first time, I tried their matcha green tea frappe 16 oz. (Php110) (it’s also available in  8 oz.) and I didn’t regret it! I swear, I’m not really a big fan of green tea, but this one (next to my fave kitkat green tea flavor lol) is an exception! The HOT matcha is also a MUST TRY! I also tried their oreo crumbs (sylvannas coated with crushed oreos)(Php40) and their oreo cupcake (Php55). I just love oreos and it was surely an oreo overload for me!!! Hahaha. What I love about this place is that they offer a selection of chalkboard specialities that changes regularly. As of now, they’re offering sandwiches and how lucky I was to have a bite of their Canadian ham sandwich (Php75). Simply delish! (Oh yeah, the sandwiches menu was made on-the-spot by yours truly haha! I’ve been into basic typography and lettering lately.) All their pastries and sandwiches are freshly baked on the premises and are of outstanding quality. The warm and friendly atmosphere makes it a perfect choice for a first date!

  • Chocolate frappe
  • Matcha Green Tea frappe
  • HOT matcha green tea
  • Sylvannas
  • Carrot cake (One of Chef Honey’s top pick!)
  • Canadian Sandwich
  • Lasagna
  • Flavored iced teas
Oh My Pastry and Cafe should be in your caffes-to-visit-list whenever you’re around CDO. The chef’s inventive takes on pastries are always a treat to discover! They’re located at Yacapin-Velez Sts., Cagayan de Oro City

A Story of A Pastry Lover–Chef Mich

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

Aside from my deep love with food, I honestly go crazy over sweets! And one of my dreams as a food blogger is to become a pastry chef and have my own TV show. LOL. But before that actually happens, I have to learn the basics.

Meet Michellene Uapal or commonly known as Chef Mich. She is a pastry lover based in Cagayan de Oro City. She sure do loves anything sweet! From cupcakes, to cookies, cheesecakes, etc. Name it and she’ll eat it! Kidding aside, it has always been her dream to become a pastry chef.

Hong Kong is my first out of the country destination this year! And, I’m so happy that my cousin and I were able to maximize our 5-day trip. We went to a lot of places (Disneyland, Macau, Ocean Park, Victoria’s Peak, Tsim Sha Tsui, Jordan, etc.) and took lots of photos so I apologize for the lengthy post that you’re about to read.
In case you're wondering who was with me during the entire trip, I was with my travel buddy, Olive, she's my first degree cousin and we were able to conquer HK backpacker style. No tour guides or whatsoever. We were just two clueless wanderers lost in a big city. But hey, we got home still in one piece, right? Hahaha!
Since we didn't avail any package tours, we had to plan out our own itinerary. All thanks to Miss Irene of for helping us with it!
On our first day, our first goal was to get out of the airport. Why? because Hong Kong International Airport is really huge place that you’d easily get lost if you don’t know where you’re going. Just imagine, from the arrival area you still have to ride the subway to get to immigration department. Whew!
Before leaving the airport don’t forget to grab your FREE MAP (you can spot it on your way out) and most importantly, just a tip of advice: secure your own octopus card, which is worth HKD150. Trust me, this card is your golden key access to almost everything in your stay Hong Kong. You can use it on the MTR, busses, convenience stores (e.g. 7-11), any restaurants, etc. It’s a reloadable card and you use it as your mode of payment instead of cash.

We stayed at the Dragon Hostel in Mongkok. It’s a budget/wallet-friendly place to stay in. Simply perfect for backpackers. You can check out their website for details and reservations. Oh yeah, they also give ticket discounts on tourist spots and must-go-places in HK. Cool huh? :)
After checking in, our tummies started to grumble so we’ve thought of grabbing some snacks at the nearest Mcdonald’s (play-safe) in our place haha! After filling our stomachs, it was time to start our HK adventure!

Above are snapshots of the places we’ve been to on our first day such as THE PEAK TRAMAVENUE OF THE STARSHARBOUR CITY– It’s not literally a “city”, but a very huge mall about a size of a “city” hahaha! At around 8pm, we got to witness the free laser light show across Victoria Harbour. Gaaah! It was such a beautiful night view of Hong Kong to see!
Honestly, I've never thought we’d actually get to the places I listed on our itinerary because a) We don’t know what train nor bus to ride on, b) We suck at reading maps (lol), and c) We’re just plainly clueless about everything hahaha!

We ended the day with a good night sleep because DAY 2 was my most anticipated day of my entire life. Guess what it is? Hint: it’s on the HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH! Check out my next post because I figured that my Disneyland experience deserves a special blogpost. Mehehe! :)
P.S I’m gonna make a separate blog post for every adventure we had to avoid a super lengthy post. Hope you'll enjoy reading my HK getaway experience! Hope you enjoyed reading! :)

I'm the type of person who's always up for anything, so when my blogger best friend Pearl Aton told me about her idea of a "James Dean-ish inspired shoot", I excitedly said 'YES'. Looking for an outfit wasn't that tricky since all I needed was a leather jacket (got mine from my dad's closet lol), a white shirt, and jeans to achieve that certain look and feel. However, it was a risky shoot because we've decided to use something that we aren't used to using in our everyday lives– a cigarette haha!
